We lend books, magazines, large print books, audio books, video tapes, music cd's and
cassettes, children's read-a-longs, puppets and puzzles. We borrow materials from
libraries across the USA upon request.
Our staff will help you find the information you seek, either in-person or by phone.
Use our on-line catalog and magazine indexes either in-person or from your home or office
computer. The magazine index covers 3,000+ periodical titles and includes full-text
articles from 1,000+ titles. Additional on-line periodical databases are available
in the Library.
Children's Services
Children's programs are offered throughout the year. Watch our Library Programs Page for announcements of sign-up for
Spring or Fall story hours. Seasonal "drop-in crafts" are presented throughout
the year and announced on our Programs Page. During the Winter and Summer months, special
Reading Clubs are produced to encourage children to read and explore the Library. These,
too, will be announced. Also watch for special performances by such perennial favorites as
The Gingerbread Puppets, Guitar Bob, Sprinkles the Clown, Mikey Mouse, and George the
Magician.
Chester Library cards are available free of charge to anyone who resides
or owns property or a business in either Chester
Township or Chester Borough. In addition,
courtesy privileges are extended to those who work or attend school in Chester. Others may
purchase a card for $40 per year. Call for additional information. We honor cards from
other libraries in the Morris Automated Information
Network (M.A.I.N.) with some restrictions.
Materials are generally lent for two weeks and may be renewed if not
requested by another client. Entertainment videos (feature films) are lent for
two days. Chester
residents may borrow Reference books overnight. They may be checked out at closing time
and must be returned prior to the next day's opening. Books may be returned to any library
in the M.A.I.N. system. Audio visual materials
should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed. Late return fees of 5¢ per day
are charged for all materials except entertainment videos, which have a fine of $2 per
day. The maximum fine on any item is $5.

shelves and hold the item for you. Alternatively, you may call your home library to ask
that they have the item sent to it for pick up.
